HEADING FORWARD….

A month or so back I purchased some BJD doll heads. They had been painted not to my taste but I figured i’d have a go at repainting them.

003

This was one of the heads.

004

The second one.

009

The third one

017

And this was the forth one, it is bigger than the other three , meant for bigger doll.

So first up was cleaning off the sealer and paint from all the heads.

019

It was reasonably easy to do, thank goodness. Three are whats called Fresh skin and one is Oriental skin.

016 This is the Oriental skinned one. A Dollstown Seola head.

020

On my first attempt the lips were too pink and bright. I have really enjoyed painting them but have struggled getting the colours right!

001

I decided to paint them all at the same time, it was hard on some to find the correct place for the eyebrows !

008

you have to layer everything, when you are happy with something you seal it. so as not to remove it if the next thing you try does not work.

010

also when you are working you cannot see what’s happening as clearly as once you take and put on a photo on the computer!

009

I decided also to try making their eyebrows to suit the colour of the wig they may land up wearing. Not so sure if this was a good call!

Then just before the weekend a wig arrived and I tried it on the Seola Head and I just loved it on her. So I left the others and carried on with her head as I so wanted to see the head completed and on the body.

So I tweaked her a little more, wished I’d remembered to seal her before I continued as I lost a little of the good stuff I’d done. But decided that she’d do for a first attempted , so sealed her, put her upper eyelashes on and varnished her lips and attached her head to a body.

So here she is , her before photo….

009

and her after one.

018

I’m quite pleased with her, she needs a little more work and her eyes which are green  but are too dark, so I’ll have to get some more and change them.

I am enjoying painting these faces , the great thing is if it looks bad or you make a mistake you can wipe it all clean and start again.

Even write this blog post and looking at the photo’s as made me see that I need to clean a head or two and start afresh. But this young girl I’ll leave for a while as I just love her ‘look’ 🙂

O is for ONCE..

018

ONCE upon a time right here

Darcy read an OLD book clear

To little ONE’s hanging on every word

This tale is ONE they’d never heard !

024

Constance O does jump in fright!
At the ONEROUS task in OLIVER’s Sight
But just like any great book should
He wins the day and they sigh that’s good!

The little ONE’S beg Darcy to read ON
OF ONEROUS task ‘s ! there must be more than ONE!
But Canny Darcy says instead
She’ll give them all OAT cakes before bed!

So they all smile with delight
and wander off into the night

OLIVER his task completed
Waits Once more until he’s needed.

Dee OWEN

This was my entry to the dolland bear althabet Challenge.

015

My Heather Maciak dolls loved listening to the tale.

021

Unfortunately I could not use this one as you can see the pipes for the boiler !

026

The light from the lamp enabled me to not use a flash for most of them.

028

without the flash is has a nicer softer focus I think.

DARCY

I finally managed to get some clothes to fit my new Dollstown bjd doll. I ordered them a while back and they finally arrived today.

014

I had also managed to pickup a couple of pairs of secondhand shoes for her. So when the clothes arrived she could get dressed completely.

016

Seeing her wearing clothes that fit also gave me the idea for her name. Darcy.

I have a niece called Darcy who looks quite similar to this doll . Darcy turned eighteen this month!

So this fourteen year old became Darcy.

017

I am still getting used to handling these dolls  and found out it’s no good trapping her legs between mine while trying to put a t shirt over her head as she just folds at the knees!

021

Darcy kindly helped me with a few things on the dresser.

026

She can just reach up to the dressers second shelf.

028

Darcy likes to wear flat shoes as she is very conscious of her height, being quite tall and slim, she’s at that age where she is taller than most of her friends and quite a few of the boys in her class!

030

Although she has her moments ,where Mum is the enemy and the world is against her, she also has her moments where she’s that sweet helpful girl before she became a teen!

SLIDING INTO BJD’S

I have spent years admiring the Ball Jointed Dolls ( BJD’S ) that people have been showing on the various photo sites, like Flickr etc.

Many a time I considered dipping my doll collecting toe into that pond but there was always a Sasha or a piece of furniture for the Sasha I wanted/needed to buy. Then over the last few years I have started to add other dolls to my collection, Zwergnase, Heather Maciak, Wichtel’s , Schoenhut to name but a few !

But I have continued to go back and look at these bjd’s. My friend Sharon brought a few of her dolls over to the Chat n Snap I run annually in October which gave me a chance to see some up close and I was very smitten but Sasha was still Queen of the purse strings!

However I now have most , if not all, of the Sasha’s I want and only buy on the odd occasion if one comes along and takes my fancy. So I have been able to look elsewhere!

In truth , although I never think of her as a BJD but she is , I have in fact owned one for a long while Elfine!

036

She was one I could not resist , she is an Elf  ! beneath those purple locks she sports her elfin ears. She calls to the story teller in me and also the lover of fairies , elves , magic and mystery plus medieval , castles etc.

She is by Kaye Wiggs.

But I never think of her as a bjd, which of course she is! and so now she’s come to mind as I write this post , her human counterpart of course should appear to!

010

This is Faith another Kaye Wiggs doll but with human ears, she was the first face style of Kaye Wiggs dolls I fell in love with but Elfine with her Elf ears was the one I found and purchased first. But I was lucky to find a friend selling this girl a year back and collected her at the Sasha Celebration Weekend.

At that weekend were a couple of friends who have been into the bjd scene for many years, so I was able to see another bjd Kaye Wiggs girl this time a Faun.

Then this year I asked them to bring along more of their BJD’s so that I could see them. Well that was me done for really ! I just loved the feel and weight of them and the size! Bigger than I thought in one case but the posing they could do and so real looking! They immediately connected with my imagination and I could see their’ story’.

And so finally I have had the chance to begin a collection of these dolls! and like most things I collect I throw myself in !

First I bought some heads, that although I was not keen on the paint work of their faces They were being sold at a good price, so I jumped in and bought two then later went back and bought another two!

003

This is one of the heads made by DollsTown dolls but painted by the owner.

For me the colours are too unnatural, so I have cleaned the paint work off and will try to do a more natural job.

Then a doll came up for sale and I thought about it, asked my expert friend about it, then made an offer which was accepted!

dolls town Amy 1

I did not like the wig on her but her face was painted by a good face up artist, so I took the plunge and got her.

017

I changed her wig but she is still a work in progress ,meaning I will try a few other styles of wig until I decide which one is her! She is a Dollstown Amy on a 13 year old body, that means her body is made to resemble that of a thirteen year old girl.

Then Paul kindly bought me a Dollstown 7 year old body to use with my DT heads. So while waiting for that to arrive I came across another bjd that I liked the look of.

This one was made by Maskcat bjd dolls and is their face style called Margo.

006

Again I made an offer which was I am pleased to say was accepted and so she came this week. She’s slightly smaller than the DT Amy which is nice.

I decided to try her in the wig that Amy came with and I’m pleased to say I really like it on her.

047

I think it really suits her, so this will probably be her look. She’s wearing a Sasha outfit by Petrana but it’s a little to small for her but looks ok for now. I’m still working on a name for her, a few have come to mind but I need to see her for a while and see what fits.

051

So she needs an outfit and some shoes, another avenue to learn about!

Finally after a lot of waiting my 7 year old DT dolls body arrived and although I have not painted the faces yet, I of course just had to put a head on the body, dress it , wig it and take a photo.

001

So here it is, I just need to make a good job of the painting and then she can have some eyes and then I can decided if this is the right look for her. This head which is called  Hannah by the makers , will be on a doll called Morwenna by me, well that is unless her whole character changes once she’s found her look!

Well that’s the story so far! I will share my doll face up efforts once I actually start! and you can be my critic’s!

Now I really need to sort out my Sasha Studio so I have somewhere to keep all these extra dolls and their furniture……

M is for MONEY

026

M is for Money, little MILLIE MACIAK places her MONEY in MUM’s MONEYBOX so MUM can get MULTI funds that grow MASSIVE and then she can buy MORE dolls! MAGNIFICENT !

032

Millie is joined by Jenny and Lexie, who say it looks like fun putting the coins in the moneybox.

034

“Well ” says Millie to her sisters ” Look there’s lots of money we can all put it in!”

037

So Lexie picks up a coin and drops it in, hearing a chink !

038

Jenny says ” Do it again Lexie!”

So she does ” This is such fun!”

041

” let’s do it together ” says Millie picking up another coin

Lexie gets one to ” One Two Three!” they all call together and the girls drop the coins.

045

“Come on Jenny you have a go !” calls Millie

“Yes ” Lexie says touching Jenny’s back ” That’s it drop it in!”

All the girls giggle as the coin makes a thud and not a chink!

048

Soon all the money was in the Moneybox and the girls go off to tell Mum of their good work!

Millie is my new Heather Maciak Lexie doll. I found her quite by chance when looking on the internet a month back. She was just too sweet to pass by, so I bought her and she arrived today.

009

She is wearing her original shoes and ribbons but not outfit. I believe her to be a Springtime at Quiet Water Lexie created for the Chesaspeake Doll Club Luncheon in April 2008.

This is a photo from Heather Maciak’s site showing her in her outfit.

Lexie_Quiet_Waters_adj-214x354

I may try and make her a similar outfit when I have some time.

I managed to get her off the doll stand without damaging her! She is a porcelain doll

so a doll stand is not a good idea!.

048

Jenny in the middle is a  Dressy Jenny also from 2008, she came to me in her original outfit and with her box .

Here she is with her matching Dressy Lexie.

051

Here we have the two Lexie’s , one now called  Millie on left and Lexie on right. This Lexie in white is a Pastel Lexie who is a limited edition of only 25 again from 2008.

Pastel_Jenny_Lexie_adj-186x269

Shown above with her pastel Jenny sister. Under her white dress she is wearing her pastel blue outfit. She also came with her box.

I’ve decided they are triplet sisters because I did not want one to be left out.

L IS FOR LITTLE AND LOCKS

028

LITTLE girls get over whelmed
when trying to get in
It’s not a LAUGH when
the front step hits your chin!

Keys can dangle from the LOCK
they’ve no chance of obtaining
The sky can darken all it LIKES
it could even set to raining!

030

LOOKING up all in a huff

tempers start to rise

But that’s no good as still

the keys dangle way above her eyes!

Where is Mum? She’d better come

and open up this door!

I’m feeling tired and very wired I’ll

lay down and start to snore !

My snoring LOUD will draw a crowd

and people will stop to stare

they’ll mutter to about me and you

and say that you don’t care

So you’d best get Dad, that lovely lad

to move the LOCK right down

Then LITTLE me can gain entry

and save me from this frown!

These were my two entries for the Alphabet Doll and Bear Challenge

I also took a couple of other photos before I settled on those two.

009

Constance O with the little silver lock from my gate bracelet.

012

017

My first photos for the challenge were at the door to the brick outhouse.
